The top-seeded Elon University men’s tennis team has advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament with a 4-0 shutout of host University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

The Phoenix jumped out to an early lead by taking the doubles point. Juniors Stefan Fortmann and Juan Madrid made quick work of sophomores John Peacey and Gino Delvalle at No. 3 doubles winning 8-1. Junior Brian Kowalski and sophomore Robert Lindgren then clinched the point with an 8-3 win over freshmen Austin Boaz and Derrick Brown at No. 2 doubles.

Elon completed the shutout with three straight wins in singles play. Junior Jordan Kaufman was the first to win his match defeating Peacey 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.

Southern Conference Player of the Year Cameron Silverman then blew past Pavels Grigorjevs at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-1. Madrid then clinched the victory for the Phoenix with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Brown at No. 6 singles

Elon improves to 17-4 on the year.  The loss drops Chattanooga to 7-14.  Elon now will face No. 4 Appalachian State University .  The match is scheduled for 10 a.m. April 18 at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
