Heavy rain in the Wilmington, N.C., area cancelled the final round of the Seahawk Intercollegiate, making the 36-hole standings the final results. The Elon University men’s golf team placed ninth among the 13 schools in the event. The Phoenix shot a combined total of 599, with scores of 300 in round one and 299 in the second 18 holes. Elon was 23 over par for the event, two strokes behind eighth-place University of Wisconsin.

Senior Stuart Kaufman paced the Phoenix with a score of 145, good for a tie for 13th place in the final individual standings. Kaufman had rounds of 71 and 74 at the Country Club of Landfall-Nicklaus course.

Sophomore Jeff Krieger tied for 32nd place with a score of 151. He shot 75 and 76 in his two rounds. Sophomore Jonathan Dilanni and his brother, junior Will Dilanni both tied for 38th place with a score of 152. Will shot 78 and 74, and Jonathan shot 77 and 75.

Rounding out the Elon contingent, senior John Somers tied for 47th place with a score of 154. He shot a pair of 77s in the tournament.

The event was won by the University of South Carolina. The Gamecocks had a combined score of 560, 16 under the par of 576. South Carolina sophomore Will Starke won the individual portion of the event with a score of 137, fueled by a first-round 64. Starke shot 73 in the second round.

Elon will return to action March 28-30 at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C. The event will be hosted by Southern Conference rival Furman University.
