Another complete performance by the Elon University women’s tennis team gave the squad its second Southern Conference win and eighth straight overall, as the team swept Davidson College, 7-0, March 16 at the Covington Tennis Courts in Davidson, N.C.

Wins on all three doubles courts gave the Phoenix a 1-0 lead to begin the match.  Senior Frida Jansaker and junior Maria Camara Ruiz handily topped senior Nisha Crouser and freshman Jenna Brunner, 8-2.  Eleven games is all senior Bryn Khoury and sophomore Taylor Casey needed to beat senior Tamara Hill and freshman Sarah Stein of Davidson, as Khoury and Casey rolled to an 8-3 win on court No. 3.

Senior Jordan Johnston and junior Barbora Lazarova ran into a bit of trouble on court No. 1, but pulled out an 8-6 win over sophomore Elaina Cummer and senior Brites Moniz-Soares.

Once singles play began, the Phoenix quickly began to run away with the match, starting on court No. 6, where freshman Tolley Rice claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win over Hill.  The victory got Rice back on the winning track after suffering her first loss of the season March 11 against Gardner-Webb University.

The Elon lead stretched to 3-0 after Lazarova’s 6-1, 6-2 triumph over the Bulldogs’ Crouser on court No. 3.  Khoury clinched the match for the Phoenix shortly after as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Stein.

Wins by Jansaker, Casey and Johnston finished off the sweep for the Phoenix, its sixth in the last eight matches.  The team moves to 8-4 on the season and 2-0 in the Southern Conference with the victory.

The Phoenix will play Wake Forest University March 16, marking the end of nonconference play for the Phoenix.  Elon is 1-21 in program history against Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) teams, with its lone win coming in 2013 against the Demon Deacons.  Wake Forest will enter the match having lost five matches in a row.  The match is set for 2 p.m. at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
