Elon University men’s tennis, which returns its entire starting lineup from last year’s Southern Conference regular season Champion team, has announced its 2014 schedule.

The Phoenix and coach Michael Leonard welcomes back SoCon Player of the Year and senior Cam Silverman, in addition to his doubles partner, junior Stefan Fortmann.

Similar to the women’s tennis squad, the men’s team will travel to the prestigious ITA Division I Kick-off Weekend on Jan. 24-25, and will be the No. 4 seed in the Charlottesville, Virginia, pod. The Phoenix will take on University of Virginia and either Indiana University or Samford University. Elon and Samford are the only two SoCon teams in the entire field of 60.

Elon opens the season at the N.C. State Invitational on Jan. 10-12 at North Carolina State University, and then travels to Durham for a nonconference match at Duke University on Jan. 17.

Following the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, Elon hosts four consecutive home matches. On Feb. 8, Norfolk State University and University of North Carolina-Asheville come to town for a doubleheader. Campbell University and Greensboro College visit on Feb. 12 and Feb. 16, respectively.

On Feb. 21-22, the Phoenix is in Wilmington for matches against University of North Carolina-Wilmington and East Tennessee State University. Elon will compete against Brown University on Feb. 28 at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center in Greensboro.

Elon will then host three straight SoCon matches against the likes of University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, Samford University, and Davidson College. The Phoenix travels to Winthrop University on Mar. 14, before hosting Radford University on Mar. 16.

A stretch with four out of five games on the road then ensues for Elon, beginning with trips to The Citadel and Georgia Southern University. The Phoenix hosts University of North Carolina-Greensboro on Apr. 2, and then hits the road for matches at Furman University and Wofford College. The regular season ends with two home games against Appalachian State University and East Carolina University.

The Southern Conference Tournament is scheduled for Apr. 16-19 in Chattanooga.
