Building off a Southern Conference Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth a year ago, the Elon University baseball team has released another challenging slate for the 2014 season.

Head coach Mike Kennedy’s team went 34-31 in 2013, defeating The Citadel in the SoCon Championship game and advancing to the Charlottesville Regional of the NCAA Tournament. There, the Phoenix defeated No. 2 seed University of North Carolina at Wilmington twice, but was eliminated with two losses to the top seed, University of Virginia.

Elon opens the season with a three game series Feb. 14-16 against University of Cincinnati home at Latham Park. The Phoenix will also welcome North Carolina State University, who is coming off a trip to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., along with the likes of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Coastal Carolina University and Wake Forest University to the friendly confines of Latham Park.

Following the three games against Cincinnati, N.C. State visits for one, Wagner College stops by for a three game slate and UNC-Wilmington comes to town for one. The Phoenix is not on the road until a trip down I-40 Feb. 26 to play North Carolina A&T State University.

Elon hosts the annual Elon Invitational the weekend of Feb. 28-Mar. 2, with St. Joseph’s University, Gardner-Webb University, and High Point University competing. This occurs the same weekend the men’s basketball team hosts Davidson College for senior night.

The Phoenix travels to High Point for a midweek game following the Elon Invitational before heading to Myrtle Beach, S.C., in the Chanticleer Invitational from Mar. 7-9 hosted by Coastal Carolina. University of Minnesota and University of Maryland-Baltimore County also compete in the tournament. Elon then hosts Liberty University for one game before getting into Southern Conference play with a three-game slate against Georgia Southern University Mar. 14-16.

Elon travels to N.C. State on Mar. 19 and has a home-and-home with Wake Forest on Mar. 25-26. Smashed in between is a three-game homestand against Western Carolina University. The Phoenix then have three home games against The Citadel before playing contests against North Carolina A&T and Campbell University.

The month of April features three-game sets with SoCon foes Samford University, Wofford College, Appalachian State University and University of North Carolina-Greensboro, along with games against North Carolina, UNC-Wilmington, High Point and Coastal Carolina. The Phoenix then hosts Davidson May 2-4 and North Carolina on May 7 before heading to Furman University May 9-11 for three games and to Lynchburg, Va. to battle Liberty on May 13 to close the regular season.

The Southern Conference Tournament is set for May 21-25 in Charleston, South Carolina.
