The Elon University women’s lacrosse team has released its schedule for their inaugural 2014 season. Competing in the Atlantic Sun Conference, the Phoenix is scheduled to face seven Big South teams and three Atlantic Coast Conference opponents.
Elon will host Presbyterian College in an exhibition at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, before heading off to Durham to take on the Duke University Blue Devils in the season opener on Friday, Feb. 7.
The home opener for the Phoenix comes one week later at 4 p.m. when the Longwood University Lancers come into Rhodes Stadium, where the Phoenix play their home games.
The team will then head north to Virginia for a pair of games. On Friday Feb. 21, the Phoenix travel to Lynchburg, Va. to face Liberty University before heading to Blacksburg, Va. to take on Virginia Tech.
Elon starts out the month of March with two home games. St. Francis College will come to town on Saturday March 1, at 2 p.m. with Detroit College playing at Rhodes Stadium the following Wednesday, March 5, at 7 p.m in Elon’s first conference matchup of the season.
The Phoenix will travel to face Costal Carolina University on Saturday, March 8. Four days later, on Wednesday, March 12, the maroon and gold will play the defending national champions University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The Phoenix will then take on two conference opponents with a trip to Campbell University on Saturday, March 15, followed by a road matchup with Davidson College, the defending conference champions, on Saturday, March 22.
Presbyterian will return to Rhodes Stadium, this time for a regular season matchup, on Friday, March 28 at 6 p.m. The Phoenix will then travel to face on High Point University on Sunday, March 30.
Elon will host Atlantic-Sun opponent Kennesaw State University at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, in the final home game of the season. The matchup will be senior day, which will honor senior captains Emily Bishop and Tierney Guido.
Three more road encounters will round out the regular season for the Phoenix. Elon face Howard University in the nation’s capital on Saturday, April 19, then travel to Florida for a matchup with Stetson University on Friday, April 25, and Jacksonville University Sunday, April 27.
Jacksonville will host the conference tournament, which is scheduled to begin on Friday, May 2. The Phoenix will look to be one of the four teams to qualify for the tournament.
