The 25th ranked Elon University men’s soccer team lost a tight, highly competitive game to the Furman University Paladins 1-0 Saturday, Oct. 19, in Greenville, S.C.
The Phoenix (10-3-1, 2-2 in SoCon), outshot the Paladins (10-1-2, 2-0-2 in SoCon) 13-9, including a 10-4 advantage in the first half. Yet, neither team could find the back of the net in the first half.
After a second half of similar near misses for both squads, the Paladins struck in the 82nd minute.
Freshman forward Bobby Edet lofted a shot from 25 yards out that went over the head of junior goalkeeper Nathan Dean and into the right hand corner of the Phoenix’s goal. It was Edet’s seventh goal of the season.
Elon will look to rebound from tonight’s loss when they play the second of its three straight road games on Tuesday, Oct. 22, when they travel to Durham, N.C. to take on Duke University. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
