The Elon University men’s soccer team lost 3-0 to Duke University Tuesday, Oct. 22, in Durham, N.C. to drop its second straight game overall and third of the last four contests.

In the 46th minute, junior midfielder Sean Davis took a pass from fellow midfielder Nick Palodichuk and beat Phoenix junior goalkeeper Nathan Dean into the upper right hand corner of the goal from 15 yards out.

In the 48th minute, the Blue Devils struck again. Palodichuk hit a corner into the box that freshman forward Brody Huitema was able to head past Dean and into the goal, giving his team a two-goal lead.

The Blue Devils then extended their lead to three in the 80th minute on Davis’s strike from the penalty area following a Phoenix penalty. It was the first time this season that the Phoenix had given up three goals in a game.

Though the Blue Devils scored all three goals in the second half, the feat was done playing with 10 men after junior midfielder Riley Wolfe was given a red card in the 45th minute.

With the loss, Elon drops to 10-4-1 on the season and will next play on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Davidson College. The match is set to kick off at 7 p.m.
