Freddy Suppes: President

Hometown: Cleveland, Ohio

Intended Majors: Communications and Political Science

What inspired you to run for freshman class president?

My past leadership in SGA inspired me. I was class president in high school and I wanted to get involved and meet some people. I didn’t know if  I wanted to run for senator or president, but a lot of people encouraged me to run for president.

What do you hope to accomplish in this position?

Mainly, I want to represent the class as best as I possibly can. I’ve heard a lot of opinions, concerns and issues from my classmates already and I’m going to bring them up with the other class representatives and see if we can meet their concerns.

Do you anticipate a future with the SGA?

Yes, I’m going to take it one year at a time, but if everything goes well, I hope to be involved with the SGA for all four years.

What do you hope to do after school?

I'd love to go into law, so I’m considering a pre-law program. I don’t know what type of law yet, but my father is in corporate law and majored in communications and political science. After college, I’m going to take a year and be an intern somewhere and see what type of law I’m really interested in.

What do you like to do in your free time?

It depends. I love writing music and creating covers for popular and old songs. My roommate loves music, too, and we like writing lyrics together. I love competitive sports and writing, as well. I love politics, so I usually try to find things to write about, depending on what interests me that day and how much free time I have. A lot of my friends in high school were really involved in politics, so we write to each other and debate over Skype. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Kyle Porro: Vice President

What inspired you to run for freshman class vice president?

I have been involved with student council since fifth grade, and I’ve always had a desire to help out and stay involved. I came in expecting to take a year off from student council, but then I started talking to people and realized that I couldn’t just stay uninvolved. I’ve always been president, but that’s not really want I wanted to do this year, so I met Freddy Suppes and decided to run as his vice president.

What do you hope to accomplish in that position?

This college student government is totally new to me, so I want to see how the system works and what kind of leverage we have in the campus and determine what is realistic and not realistic. I’ve been very into green initiatives, from recycling to water conservation, so that’d be a part of my agenda, but I’d also support events that bring the school together as a community.

What do you hope to do after school?

I’ve been thinking a lot about that and it’s a tough question. After Elon, I want to go to graduate school and get my MBA, maybe even a doctorate. I need to determine what degrees would be necessary for the positions I want. I come from a family of lawyers, so they all say I’m definitely going to be a lawyer, but it’s very up in the air right now.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I like to relax. I’ve found that I overextend myself in some regards, and when I get the chance to take a nap or hang out with friends, I think it’s one of the nicest things you can do. I love ultimate Frisbee, movies and I’m a big Dave Matthews fan so I go to a lot of concerts. I like to culture myself, but I also like to take it easy. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Shelby Allen: Secretary

Hometown: Hilton Head, S.C.

Intended Major: Business

What inspired you to run for freshman class secretary?

I never got to be a part of student council in my high school, but I was the secretary for my National Honor Society. I loved the position and everything that came along with the job, so when I saw that SGA is big here, I thought I could finally have a chance to get involved. When I saw that the secretary position was open, I knew I wanted to be a part of it.

What do you hope to accomplish in that position?

I hope to be a good representative for the class and be able to represent SGA well so that more students will be interested in joining SGA, especially with me not being involved in high school. I want students to know what it’s like to be involved, even if they didn’t have that opportunity before coming here. I’m excited to listen to the student body and get their opinions out through the SGA.

Do you anticipate a future with the SGA?

I hope so! It’s all new so I don’t know what to expect, but if everything goes well this year, my class will know who I am and I’ll have a good chance of continuing on.

What do you hope to do after school?

I would love to be a guidance counselor at a school or work at a nonprofit that works with kids. I’ve done a lot of work with organizations that work with children, and I love it.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to sing, and I love to hang out with my friends. I like being with a small group of friends watching a movie and just having fun. Theater and singing have always been a big part of my life, as well. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mark McGann: Senator

What inspired you to run for freshman class senator?

I was an elected official for all four years of high school, and it was the best part of my high school experience. I figured this would be a good way to get involved and meet people.

What do you hope to accomplish in the position?

I just hope to get acquainted with what student government is and fulfill my role the best I can.

Do you anticipate a future with the SGA?

I hope to be in it all four years. I think being executive president would be really awesome, but we'll see.

What do you hope to do after school?

I'd like to move to New York City and work for NBC, or become a production assistant in Los Angeles and work my way up.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love being outdoors, and I'm a big movie guy. My entire room is covered with movies. I have more than 250 of them, which I started displaying in fifth grade. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Elyse Ruppert: Senator

I would love to continue with it for all four years if it seems like the best way to get involved with issues I care about.

What do you hope to do after school?

I really want to work for Disney. I’m obsessed with the company. It holds a special place in every kid’s heart. There's so much you can do, but specifically I want to do sales for products.

I love to read and hang out with my friends. I have a record player so I listen to that a lot, and I love TV. "Orange Is the New Black" is my favorite show right now.
