The Elon University women’s tennis team ended their regular season in style, sweeping the East Carolina University Pirates 7-0 Saturday afternoon April 13 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. It was the perfect sendoff for Briana Berne, the team’s lone senior, on senior day.

The Phoenix's tandem of Jordan Johnston and Frida Jansaker, both juniors, fell behind in their doubles match 4-1 before storming back and topping East Carolina's duo 8-4, inching the Phoenix closer to the all-important doubles point.

After the Phoenix's pair of Berne and freshman Taylor Casey clinched the doubles point for the Phoenix with an 8-4 victory, the No. 2 doubles match was called with the two tied at eight-all.

Casey then extended Elon's lead to 2-0 with a 6-1,6-0 win in No. 6 singles. Lazarova followed with a win in No. 4 singles, making the score 3-0 in favor of the home team.

Elon would cruise from there, with Jansaker, Johnston, junior Bryn Khoury and Berne supplying the Phoenix’s final four points. The win was Jansaker’s 20th on the season.

The Phoenix will enter the Southern Conference tournament at 19-3. Elon will host the tournament next week April 18-21 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center and the Burlington Tennis Center. Their seeding will be determined at the conclusion of the Southern Conference regular season.
