The Elon University women’s tennis team won their school record 17th match Sunday afternoon April 7 with a 5-2 victory at the Furman University Paladins in Greenville, S.C.

The Phoenix improves to 17-3 on the year, 7-2 in Southern Conference play.

Juniors Frida Jansaker and Jordan Johnston beat the Paldins duo of Lauren Kline and Alex Moreno-Kaste in the No. 1 doubles spot to give the Phoenix the upper hand and improve the twosome’s record to 18-2 on the year.

The Paladins tied the doubles score at one with a win in No. 2 doubles, but the Phoenix responded with a 9-8 victory in No. 3 doubles to take the doubles point and give the Phoenix the early 1-0 lead.

Jansaker followed by winning her singles match to give the Phoenix a two-point lead and improve Jansaker’s individual record to 18-3 this season.

Johnston and fellow junior Bryn Khoury provided the Phoenix with their third and fourth points of the match, and sophomore Barbora Lazarova won the Phoenix’s last point in number five singles.

The Phoenix will conclude their Southern Conference regular season schedule on Thursday April 11 when they host in-state rival Appalachian State at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center at 3 p.m.
