Whether at home at the friendly confines of the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center or on the road, it doesn’t seem to matter to the Elon University women’s tennis team. The result of the last nine matches has been the same: a win.

The latest victim was the University of North Carolina at Charlotte on Thursday, Feb. 28 as the Phoenix took a 5-2 match at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex in Charlotte.

Elon won both of the completed doubles matches (the third was not finished), as sophomore Maria Camara Ruiz and junior Viviana Stavreva won their doubles match 8-4, followed by senior Briana Berne and freshman Taylor Casey dispatching their opponent 8-1.

Elon then won 4 of the 6 singles matches, as Camara Ruiz and juniors Frida Jansaker, Jordan Johnston and Bryn Khoury all won their matches.

Khoury improved to 10-2 on the season with the win. She currently holds a team-leading eight match winning streak while Camara Ruiz ran her winning streak to five.

The win improves the Phoenix to 9-1 overall as the team prepares for their last non-conference match Monday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center against Longwood University at 2 p.m.
