The Elon men’s tennis team extended its winning streak to five with a tough 4-3 result over Dartmouth Wednesday afternoon, March 20.

The Phoenix struck first with a win at No. 1 doubles. Junior Cameron Silverman and sophomore Stefan Fortmann defeated senior Xander Centenari and junior Brandon DeBot 8-4. Sophomore Brian Kowalski and freshman Robert Lindgren then clinched the doubles point for the Phoenix with a 8-5 result over senior Alex de Chatellus and freshman Brandon Tannenbaum at No. 2 doubles.

Sophomores Jordan Kaufam and Juan Madrid lost at No. 3 doubles in a tight 9-8 match to junior Cameron Ghorbani and junior Chris Kipouras.

Fortmann gave the Phoenix the first singles point at No. 2 singles by defeating Kipouras in straight sets 6-4, 6-0.

At No. 1 doubles, Silverman continued the winning form for Elon with a decisive 6-1, 6-3 victory against Centenari.

Kaufman was the first to lose his singles match of the day. After dropping a tough first set 7-5 to freshman Ed Nordhal, Kaufman failed to recover dropping the second set 6-1.

Lindgren lost his match not soon after. He was topped at No. 3 singles by Ghorbani by a 6-2, 6-2 margin.

Madrid’s loss to Tannenbaum at No. 6 singles tied the match at 3 apiece. Tannenbaum won in straight sets 6-4,6-3.

Kowalski won the match’s deciding game at No. 5 singles over DeBot. Kowalski lost the first set 3-6, only to recover and win the next two sets 6-3, 6-4.

Kowalski saved the Phoenix from an epic collapse that would have seen Dartmouth win the last four singles matches to cap off the comeback.

The Phoenix improves to 9-4 on the season. Elon will be on the road this weekend for two conference battles with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Samford University on back-to-back days March 23-24.
